Middlefork Savanna Workday – Lake County

January 30, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Please join Middlefork Savanna volunteers this month in pole-tree cutting and burning as well as good old fashioned brush cutting in the high quality prairie remnants. Cutting and burning accomplished by volunteers in these very special areas of the Nature Preserve provides the best chance for the savanna plants and animals to continue to thrive at Middlefork – the work at this special site is important (and fun) not only regionally but Globally, that’s just how rare some of the areas in our forest preserves are – Thanks to all who dedicate time and love to the any and all of the preserves and we hope to see you out there this month!

Things to know before you come:

  • If you are not fully vaccinated, wear a mask if unable to social distance from others at the site.
  • Bring water and a snack. Dress for the wilderness – this should include sturdy boots or shoes, a hat, bug spray, and sunscreen. Long pants and a long sleeve shirt are suggested.
  • We work hard, but at our own pace, and we often take breaks to share snacks and share ideas and nature with each other.

If you are attending a workday at a nature preserve owned by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, please complete and bring the IDNR Volunteer Waiver to the workday when you attend.
