Grisley Woods Conservation Kick-Off
October 1, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Otey-Grisley Woods Land and Water Reserve is located in Pittsburg, IL near Marion in Williamson County. The area is part of a complex of dry mesic upland forests with many 200 year old oaks. This will be one of the Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves flagship sites for the region.
Let’s build a volunteer community to learn to care for this wonder of nature. Make an impact! Join the Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves and Illinois Nature Preserves staff for this kickoff workday.
Come dressed for nature and ready to work and learn. Contribute to the discussion about protecting this unique ecosystem. We’ll walk and learn and then get to work!
Bring water and work gloves. A snack will be provided.
The group will be focused on targets such as chaff flower and woody invasive species.
Meet on Liberty School Road (Pittsburg, IL) watch for signs. (37.7939156°,

Things to know before you come:
- If you are not fully vaccinated, wear a mask if unable to social distance from others at the site.
- Bring water and a snack. Dress for the wilderness – this should include sturdy boots or shoes, a hat, bug spray, and sunscreen. Long pants and a long sleeve shirt are suggested.
- We work hard, but at our own pace, and we often take breaks to share snacks and share ideas and nature with each other.
If you are attending a workday at a nature preserve owned by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, please complete and bring the IDNR Volunteer Waiver to the workday when you attend.
